When Emma chose to move to Hickstead, she made the decision because she’d heard it was ripe with horse riding and was home to good ranches and stables. While many of her school friends were riding bikes and competing in sports with ball, Emma was riding horses and competing with barrels and poles. Therefore, Emma had spent her fair share of time in tack and feed stores.
When Emma turned eighteen, she was introduced to her inheritance from her paternal grandparents. Turns out they were quite well off. They’d lived decently but never flaunted their finances - mostly because they were saving it for their children and grandchildren. Because of this, Emma had plenty of money to her name. She had enough to move herself and a few bags of luggage across the ocean from Tennessee to Hickstead, UK. She could afford an apartment of her own and didn’t need to work anytime soon. However, she was also brought up with enough book smarts to know she couldn’t rely on that forever and needed a steady income.
Because of these two facts, Emma found herself at the local Tack & Feed. She had a job stacking shelves at the local farmers market, but it only brought in so much money. She knew she needed something more. She’d worked at a local feed store during high school so she had a bit of experience and thought this might be a good fit - she had experience and she knew enough to get buy - even in a different country.
Emma put on a bright smile and opened the door to the store, resume in hand and ready to show her best self to the owner - a Mrs. Kayleigh Haydn.
"Be somebody who makes everyone feel like a somebody!"
Horse show season was in full swing, meaning Kayleigh and the rest of the Tack Store staff were busy. She organized the last pallet of horse supplements after finding that the shelf was getting empty. The dark blonde wiped her forehead with the back of her hand after the few minutes of intense work.
Not long after, she heard the front door bell ring - meaning someone had entered the tack store. She got up from where she was and glanced towards the front door. "Just give me a moment, I'll be right with you." She tucked a piece of her hair behind her ear before heading to the front door.
She glanced at the young woman who had entered her store. It seemed as if she was new as Kayleigh didn't recognize her. "Hi there, how can I help you today? I don't think I've seen you around before!" Kayleigh had been running the tack store long enough to recognize her usual customers. She approached, not getting too close as to give the smiling teen her space.
